Suboxone® & Vivitrol® Treatment in Houston: A Path Toward Recovery

Opioid or alcohol use starting to control your life? You don't have to wait until you hit “rock bottom” to ask for help.

At Casting Crown Psychiatry Services, PLLC, we provide compassionate, confidential treatment for individuals struggling with opioid and alcohol use disorders. Treatment may include Suboxone® (buprenorphine/naloxone), Vivitrol® (extended-release naltrexone), psychiatric care, and psychotherapy, based on your individual needs.

Our goal isn't to judge how you got here. Our goal is to help you determine where you want to go next.

Looking for Suboxone Treatment in Houston?

If you've tried to stop using opioids but cravings or withdrawal keep bringing you back, this isn't simply a matter of willpower.

Opioid use disorder is a treatable medical condition.

Opioids may include:

  • Prescription opioid pain medications

  • Fentanyl

  • Heroin

  • Other opioid substances

For appropriate patients, Suboxone®, which contains buprenorphine and naloxone, can be used as part of treatment for opioid use disorder. Buprenorphine can help reduce opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms, allowing patients to focus on rebuilding stability and participating in their recovery.

Suboxone Isn't “Replacing One Addiction With Another”

This is a concern we frequently hear. When prescribed and monitored appropriately, buprenorphine is an evidence-based medication for opioid use disorder.

Recovery isn't defined by whether someone takes medication. Recovery is about improving health, functioning, stability, relationships, and quality of life.

What About Vivitrol®?

Some patients don't want a daily medication or may be looking for another treatment option.

Vivitrol® is an extended-release form of naltrexone administered approximately once a month.

It may be appropriate for certain individuals being treated for:

✓ Opioid use disorder
✓ Alcohol use disorder

Vivitrol works differently from Suboxone. It blocks opioid receptors rather than activating them. For opioid use disorder, patients must complete an appropriate opioid-free period before receiving Vivitrol because receiving naltrexone too soon after opioid use can trigger severe withdrawal.

That's why treatment should begin with a professional assessment rather than trying to determine the right medication on your own.

Suboxone or Vivitrol: Which One Is Right for Me?

There isn't one medication that's right for everyone. Your provider may consider your:

  • Current substance use

  • Withdrawal symptoms

  • Cravings

  • Previous treatment experiences

  • Medical history

  • Mental health Medications

  • Recovery goals

  • Ability to complete an opioid-free period

After an evaluation, we'll discuss appropriate treatment options with you. The goal is shared decision-making—not forcing you into a predetermined treatment plan.

Alcohol Use Can Be Treated Too

Maybe opioids aren't the problem. Maybe it's alcohol. Perhaps you've started drinking more than you intended.

You promise yourself, "I'm not drinking tonight.”

Then evening comes. Stress builds. And the cycle starts again. Alcohol use disorder exists on a spectrum. You don't have to lose your job, relationships, or health before seeking treatment. For appropriate patients, Vivitrol may be one component of treatment for alcohol use disorder, alongside behavioral and psychiatric support.

Important: Heavy or prolonged alcohol use can lead to medically dangerous withdrawal. Do not abruptly stop heavy alcohol use without appropriate medical guidance.

What About Kratom?

Kratom is sometimes marketed as “natural,” but natural doesn't automatically mean risk-free.

Some people begin using kratom for pain, mood, energy, or to manage opioid withdrawal and later find themselves experiencing tolerance, dependence, cravings, or withdrawal symptoms.

If kratom has become difficult to control, talk to us honestly about what you're taking. You don't need to hide it, and you don't need to feel ashamed. Your provider can evaluate your individual situation and discuss appropriate treatment options.

We Treat More Than Substance Use

Substance use doesn't always happen by itself. Some individuals are also struggling with:

ADHD • Anxiety • Depression • Trauma • Insomnia • Mood symptoms

Sometimes substances become a way of coping with untreated emotional distress. That's why our approach looks beyond the substance.

At Casting Crown Psychiatry Services, we believe in seeing the person beyond the diagnosis. Treatment may include:

Medication Management
Suboxone Treatment
Vivitrol Treatment
Psychiatric Evaluation
Psychotherapy
Relapse-Prevention Support
Treatment of Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

“I'm Afraid People Will Judge Me.”

That fear prevents many people from seeking treatment.

You may be a parent. A healthcare professional. A business owner. A student. A spouse. Someone who has spent years taking care of everyone else.

Substance use disorder doesn't erase who you are.

At Casting Crown Psychiatry Services, treatment is built around communication, empathy, validation, advocacy, dignity, and respect. We want to understand the person—not simply the diagnosis.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

You don't have to promise that you'll never struggle again. You don't have to have your entire recovery figured out. And you don't have to wait until everything falls apart. You only need to decide what your next step will be.
